The Rochester Oratorio Society announced a commission this week in celebration of the upcoming 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and other milestones.  The ROS will commission composer Glenn McClure to write a piece including texts, instruments and musical resources from Ghana, West Africa, and Western New York.

The 11th annual Rochester Early Music Festival offered Music for All Hallows: Spirits, Saints, and Sinners.

A few audience members and musicians wore masks from Venice, China, and Japan.

Bill Frisell, a guitarist who for many years has been a favorite at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, has a new album out.  It's a tribute to the music of John Lennon. He talks about it in this video.There are song samples here.
