Tune in for a Christmas Eve tradition.
Happy Holidays from your afternoon host guy on WXXI! It's been a busy Fall, but now that the Winter is officially upon us, I thought I'd offer a little Christmas present to you. The Eastman Wind Ensemble just toured to Michigan and Chicago, playing at the prestigious Midwest Clinic.
I'm a sucker for this sound. It's The Felice Brothers. I'd recommend it for just the piano break alone, for the way it starts to tip over, but the lyrics are interesting too. There's a man drifting off to sleep in an "attic full of make believe" while carolers sing in the street. Later he watches a woman smile on TV and ends up "laying with last year's love, high as the moon above."
Host Tony Morris presents a rich variety of musicians and their shared passion for the classical guitar.
The order forms offering music for the year-end festivities begin crossing my desk in September. All lovely, pretty stuff. All pretty much the same as last year. And then we have a banner year, and newly minted magic fills the airwaves. So here's a short list of holiday CD's I found this year--some with a new take on old pieces, and some with something entirely new.
