World Folk Tales & Fables Week

March 1-March 7 is World Folk Tales and Fables Week.  Most educators could tell you that a child's school career will encounter folk tales, fables and fairy tales continuously.  These stories vary from culture to culture but often have similar morals, themes and characters which makes them prime for classroom use, particularly in reading and writing.  Children who are familiar with folk and fairy tales as well as folk tales possess an important background knowledge of classic stories, their basic elements and story structure.

CPSC Children's Products Safety Law

If you have children, work with children or work in retail, you have probably heard quite a bit about the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) new Children's Product Safety Law that will take effect on February 10, 2009.  This law is designed to monitor and drastically reduce the lead, or phthalates, in any children's products.  Eliminating lead is a good thing, so why is this new law causing such controversy and concern?

NYSMMA (www.nyssma.org) about the upcoming conference to be held in Rochester.  It got me thinking about the significant role that school music teachers play in the potential success and future of classical public radio.
