WXXI

A planned gift is a great way to ensure WXXI remains strong and independent

Have you ever considered including WXXI in your estate plans? You would join a growing group of dedicated members who appreciate the value that WXXI brings to their lives and to the life of our community. As an Alice Wood Wynd Legacy Society member, you can help ensure that classical music, trusted news, and compelling television will be here for future generations.

Ghosts

Tom Harrell at Kilbourn Hall

Tom Harrell slowly walked from stage right. Standing just off center stage in Kilbourn Hall. One movement wove into the next in short, deliberate steps. Long, crumpled coat, raised, and lowered, arms guiding the seven piece chamber ensemble through jazz interpretations of works by Debussy and Ravel. Some familiar moments, some familiar instruments in an unknown song. Like ghosts in the trees.

Getting Jazzed Up!

The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival is underway — and with it WXXI's extensive jazz programming and events. WXXI will film three Jazz Festival performances at Kilbourn Hall as part of its Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival series.

Early Impact of "Bully"

More than 200 people attended the premiere screening of “Bully” at the Little Theatre this past Friday. The diverse audience – ranging from concerned adults to families with their children – also stayed for a WXXI-led talk back following the film.

Education Takes the Stage Again!

We often talk about the power of partnerships, whether it’s two organizations finding some symbiotic energy to address a community problem or two groups discovering that there is a parallel in their missions that can be made stronger by working together. A great example of both those is the upcoming Education Takes the Stage Luncheon.

8 Minutes in New York City

I just got off the phone with John Schaefer for today's edition of Pick 3 on WNYC's "Soundcheck." The challenge:  pick three brand new musical releases that you love.

An End-of-Year Gift means we can do even more

As 2011 nears its end, there were countless successful moments at WXXI this year – from great local productions like RIT Big Shot and the preview of our Frank Lloyd Wright Boynton House documentary, The Next Hundred Years, to essential election coverage, debates and a recent forum on the city’s Dropout Dilemma.

Many hands do great work

I recently received a letter from one of our Honorary Trustees commenting on the article that appeared in the newest issue of Metropolitan Magazine. Though the letter was addressed to me, it could speak to every person involved with making WXXI such an invaluable community resource.

WXXI is jazzed up in June

As we move into June you may be making plans to take in the sounds of this year's Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. If you do, there's a good chance you will see WXXI's production crew there.
