For everyone who became a new member or renewed his/her membership during this past week's Radio Pledge Drive — let me send out my heartfelt thanks! It's because of your support that we met a very aggressive goal that helps stabilize our local funding at a time when State and Federal funding continues to wain.
More than 200 people attended the premiere screening of “Bully” at the Little Theatre this past Friday. The diverse audience – ranging from concerned adults to families with their children – also stayed for a WXXI-led talk back following the film.
This year more than 13 million American kids will be bullied, making it the most common form of violence young people experience. Bringing this startling statistic to life is the new documentary film “Bully,” which will make its debut at the Little Theatre this Friday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m.
The WXXI Online Auction is underway with more than 5,000 items up for bid. We commonly hear from viewers and listeners about how much one of our programs affected their lives. Whether it’s a notable television special or an intriguing report on AM 1370, your response to our efforts helps us gauge the effect of our programming. Sometimes though, our programs get accolades in a more formal way, whether through awards or nominations.
We often talk about the power of partnerships, whether it’s two organizations finding some symbiotic energy to address a community problem or two groups discovering that there is a parallel in their missions that can be made stronger by working together. A great example of both those is the upcoming Education Takes the Stage Luncheon.
With unfolding radio news, continuous classical music and compelling primetime programs from American Experience to Downton Abbey, what sometimes gets lost in the mix is – arguably – the most important value WXXI provides.
You will often hear talk about WXXI radio providing “driveway moments” – those times when you were listening, and even though you arrived at your destination, you stayed in your car to hear the end of the news story or the symphonic piece. This occurrence is so prevalent, that I have had members come up to me in the supermarket or at a community event to share their instances with me!
