From the President
On Thursday, October 30th we officially kicked off the public phase of our “Go Public” Campaign. We intend to raise $17 million to ensure that WXXI and the Little Theatre can continue to meet the needs of our community for generations to come.
For the past three years, the late Larry and Jane Glazer led the Go Public Campaign through its silent phase. Serving as Campaign Co-Chairs, they helped us reach $13.2 million in commitments. Because of their leadership and dedication, and in recognition of all they have done, we are not replacing them as Campaign Co-Chairs. It is, and always will be, Larry and Jane’s Campaign and we will successfully finish it in their honor.
To accomplish this, WXXI has enlisted the leadership of two people who are also very invested in the future of Rochester. WXXI Trustee Council member and former Board Chair Harry Trueheart has a long association with WXXI and is one of the station’s original members, joining in 1966. Mr. Trueheart is currently Chairman Emeritus of Nixon Peabody LLP. Dr. Cynthia Reddeck-LiDestri is a current member of the WXXI and Little Board of Trustees and serves as Treasurer of the Board. She is the director of Wellness Programs at LiDestri Foods, Inc. Trueheart and LiDestri will help guide the campaign to its successful conclusion.
Thanks to generous donations of many local organizations and individuals, WXXI has already met more than 75% of the $17 million goal. Now, WXXI invites citizens across the region to “Go Public” in support of their public media stations and their independent community cinema. The WXXI Online Auction is underway with more than 5,000 items up for bid. Included in the incredible mix of goods, services and getaways are a 2012 Ford Fiesta SE from Shepard Ford, food and wine certificates, town packages, and original artwork from celebrated artists Jim Christy and Laura Wilder.
We commonly hear from viewers and listeners about how much one of our programs affected their lives. Whether it’s a notable television special or an intriguing report on AM 1370, your response to our efforts helps us gauge the effect of our programming. Sometimes though, our programs get accolades in a more formal way, whether through awards or nominations.
We often talk about the power of partnerships, whether it’s two organizations finding some symbiotic energy to address a community problem or two groups discovering that there is a parallel in their missions that can be made stronger by working together. A great example of both those is the upcoming Education Takes the Stage Luncheon.
