From the President
In April WXXI launched Veterans Connections, an initiative designed to help bridge military and veteran needs with community support and awareness. As part of the initiative WXXI is pleased to present several television and radio programs that spotlight the men and women who serve our county. This month we bring you Navy SEALs – Their Untold Story, airing Tuesday, May 19 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV. The program explains how the U.S. Navy SEALs morphed into the world’s most admired commandos..
That will be followed by The Lincoln Awards: A Concert For Veterans & The Military Family, airing Friday, May 22 at 9 p.m. on WXXI-TV. The program presents a concert in celebration of the Lincoln Awards, which recognize outstanding achievement and excellence in providing opportunities and support to veterans and military families. Then at 10 p.m. we join President and Mrs. Obama for an all-star tribute to the men and women who serve the United States in A Salute to our Troops: In Performance at the White House.
And of course, on the eve of Memorial Day, as our country pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, WXXI-TV presents its traditional broadcast, The National Memorial Day Concert, Sunday, May 24 at 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 p.m.

Though WXXI is known for many things – balanced news coverage, engaging educational programs, dedication to the arts – one of the efforts I’m most proud of is WXXI’s commitment to making Rochester a healthier community. In early 2007, we invited community health leaders to discuss how public media could be better used to increase the wellness of our region.
