To begin his tenure, Arild Remmereit selected joyous works from his musical homes: from his native Norway, the Violin Romance of Johan Svendsen featuring concertmaster Juliana Athayde, and from his musical home of Vienna, exhilarating selections by Johann Strauss, Jr., Arild presents the “Gaelic” Symphony of Amy Beach to usher in a season-long celebration of women composers.

Arild Remmereit leads Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 2, the "Resurrection," a work the Rochester Philharmonic performed for the first time in over 20 years. The concert begin with the brief, poignant meditation on the story of Job by Fanny Mendelssohn, sister of Felix.
