Rochester native Bill Klem, the father of modern umpires, is featured in the award-winning documentary Signs of the Time. Klem’s story and that of the 19th century deaf ballplayer William “Dummy” Hoy are told in this film that reveals the myth and mystery behind one of the greatest innovations of baseball – umpire hand signals. Signs of the Time, produced by Rochester-based Crystal Pix and presented by WXXI, airs Thursday, July 11, 2014 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-WORLD (DT21.2).

Signs of the Time received three New York Emmy® Awards in 2013  in the following categories: Documentary, Musical Composition/Arrangement (Rob LaVaque), and Editor: Program (Ray Manard).
