Women in Music, part of the free Jazz Fest Movie Series at the Little Theatre

Enjoy a matinee of three WXXI productions that spotlight the amazing work of female jazz musicians.

It's a Jazz Fest Free-for-All from WXXI and the Little Theatre! Every night of the Jazz Fest, we're proud to bring you a free screening of a jazz film. On Saturday, June 23 from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. enjoy three films, all WXXI productions, that spotlight female jazz aritists. The event is hosted by AM 1370 Jazz from the Cellars' Tom Hampson.

The first film is Now is the Time, recorded in 1977 at the Monticello Room in Rochester's Downtown Motor Inn. The film features Marian McPartland on piano; Dottie Dodgion on drums; Vi Redd on saxaphone; Mary Osborne on guitar; and Lynn Milano on bass.

The second film is Dee Dee Bridgewater, recorded at the Unicorn Club in Ithaca, New York in 1976. Dee Dee Bridgewater peforms with Joe Williams and the New York Jazz Quartet.

The third film is Catherine Russell, recorded at the Rochester International Jazz Festival in 2008.
