World Orchestra for Peace conductor Valery Gergiev

Celebrate the 100th birthday of the late Hungarian-British conductor Sir Georg Solti, founder of the World Orchestra for Peace, with the "Solti Centennial Concert."

It is hard to find an orchestra as star-studded as the World Orchestra for Peace, comprised of top players from the Vienna Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Mariinsky Orchestra, and more. Hailed for its “unrelenting intensity and edge-of-the-seat excitement” (The Guardian), this intrepid ensemble makes its highly anticipated US debut in a spectacular celebration of its founder, Sir Georg Solti, performing a selection of opera’s most beloved arias with superstars Angela Gheorghiu and René Pape, as well as orchestral favorites under the baton of impassioned conductor Valery Gergiev. This program airs Thursday, October 25 at 8:00 PM on Classical 91.5 FM/HD 91.5-1.

The program includes: MOZART Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, R. STRAUSS Don Juan, MOZART "In diesen heil'gen Hallen" from Die Zauberflöte, VERDI "Addio del passato" from La traviata, MOZART "Là ci darem la mano" from Don Giovanni, VERDI "Bella figlia dell'amore" from Rigoletto, MAHLER Adagietto from Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp Minor, and BARTÓK Concerto for Orchestra.

Highlighting the influential conductor’s aims to nurture talented young singers and musicians through his academy programs, this special tribute is hosted by Lady Solti and features video vignettes with celebrated alumni from his prestigious training grounds.
