David Cay Johnston, Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and author, joins WXXI in February. Johnston is contributing to WXXI’s Center for Public Affairs programming on television, radio and the Web.

As part of the Center’s mission to promote deeper understanding of community issues, Johnston hosts a four-part economic history series, How Did We Get Here? It premieres on Need to Know Fridays, February 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1).

This unique series traces our economic system to the beginning of civilization, revealing founding principles and age-old struggles that have survived thousands of years of humanity. Each week, Johnston will provide an engaging new perspective on our current economic plight, through the words of philosophers, ancient stone carvings, powerful leaders, and an eloquent peasant.

Johnston recently retired from The New York Times, where he was a senior reporter covering tax policy and other economic issues. He is also the author of several New York Times best sellers Perfectly Legal and Free Lunch.
