StoryCorps is an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives, turns 10 in October. Recordings are archived at the Library of Congress, and specially selected pieces air Friday mornings during Morning Editionon AM 1370 and WRUR-FM. October marks the tenth anniversary of this project, the largest oral history projects of its kind.
To celebrate, NPR’s Scott Simon and StoryCorps founder Dave Isay host a retrospective, sharing stories about StoryCorps' beginnings and its growth into an archive of interviews with nearly 100,000 Americans from every state of the union. Ties That Bind: A StoryCorps 10th Anniversary Special airs Wednesday, January 1 at 12 p.m. and again at 10 p.m. on AM 1370/FM-HD 91.5-2. They also revisit some of the most beloved conversations, reflect on Studs Terkel's speech at the launch of the project, get updates from the participants, and go behind-the-scenes of a StoryCorps interview.
