Live Broadcast and Webcast of the Newport Folk Festival

WRUR-FM 88.5 and WXXI.org will broadcast and webcast NPR Music’s live coverage from George Wein’s Folk Festival 50 on August 1 and 2, and CareFusion Jazz Festival 55 on August 8 and August 9. The festivals, both in Newport, Rhode Island, offer four days of music by some of the country’s most acclaimed artists.
 
On Saturday, August 1 from 12 noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 2 from 11:30 a.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. WRUR-FM 88.5 will air NPR Music’s coverage of all acts from the Folk Festival, which celebrates its 50th anniversary. It will also stream live at WXXI.org in the player to the right and on this WRUR page. The line-up includes: Pete Seeger, The Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, Gillian Welch, Billy Bragg, Iron & Wine, Mavis Staples and many more. NPR’s Bob Boilen, host and creator of the popular show All Songs Considered and its “Live in Concert” series, and WFUV host and music director Rita Houston will host coverage from the festival.
 
On Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. WXXI.org will stream live coverage from the CareFusion Jazz Festival 55, bringing web listenersfour complete line-ups from three stages, headlined by Tony Bennett, Mos Def, Miguel Zenon Quartet and The Bad Plus with Wendy Lewis. Josh Jackson, WBGO special projects producer and host of The Checkout, will anchor the Jazz Festival coverage.
 
In addition to live coverage of both music festivals, NPR will provide artist interviews and festival news online at its All Things Considered blog and A Blog Supremes, founded at npr.org/music. Plus, NPR Music will archive all content and provide podcasts of the performances. Updated artist lists and performance schedules are also at npr.org/music, where there is an archive of last year’s performances from Newport.
