Tickets for the Speaking of Women’s Health (SWH) Conference, hosted by WXXI, go on sale Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 9 a.m. Advance ticket sales for WXXI members only will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 9 a.m. The eighth annual SWH conference will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center on Thursday, September 16, 2010. This year’s theme is “Tune into Wellness.”
Eleven hundred tickets will be available for purchase by phone at 454-6300 or 1-800-295-WXXI, or online at WXXI.org/swh. Individual tickets are priced at $40 and include a continental breakfast, two keynote speaker presentations, a choice of three breakout session from a list of 18 different health topics and women’s issues, free health screenings, lunch, and a gift bag full of treats from conference sponsors. In addition to the single ticket price, WXXI will offer a VIP package at $500, which includes 10 conference tickets, reserved seating for lunch and the keynote presentations, recognition in the program book, plus all that the $40 ticket offers. Last year, tickets for the event sold out in a few hours, so people are encouraged to call when the lines open.
This year’s breakout session topics include: stroke prevention, patient/physician communication, uterine fibroids, osteoporosis, non-surgical skin care treatments, and many more.
The morning keynote is Linda Larsen, an inspirational speaker and author who shares stories and strategies designed to help audiences fly with their ideas and soar to new levels of joy, passion and fun. Guests will leave with a clear sense of how they can rise above anything that life throws in their paths. Larsen has a Bachelor degree in Social Work, a Masters in Fine Arts and over 20 years experience as a professional film, television and stage actress. Her critically acclaimed book, True Power, is the true story of how she was kidnapped and held at gunpoint by an escaped convict.
The luncheon portion of the program, emceed by 13 WHAM-TV’s Ginny Ryan, will include the presentation of the Pinny Cooke Award, an annual award given to a woman in recognition of her community service and responsibility, in honor of the late New York Assemblywoman Pinny Cooke. The program will also announce the Pat Andrus Community Investment Award, which supports a non-profit community based organization that works to improve the lives of women. This award is named after the late Pat Andrus, who was a long-time, dedicated volunteer and supporter of WXXI and the Speaking of Women’s Health Conference. The afternoon speaker has yet to be determined.
