An Afternoon with Jane Austen scholar and expert David Shapard
Join us for a conversation with David M. Shapard, the author of new annotated editions of Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, and Sense and Sensibility.
David will share his vast knowledge of Austen's life and work, with plenty of time for audience questions and a book signing. It's happening on Saturday, May 21st at 2 p.m. at WXXI. Tickets are just $25, and can be purchased by calling (585) 258-0200.
David graduated with a Ph.D. in European History from the University of California at Berkeley; his specialty was the eighteenth century. In the course of his work, he has explored so much about Jane Austen's life and work and time. He'll share insight into the historical context of her novels including rules of etiquette, legal and economic realities, parallels to Austen's personal life, clarifications of archaic words and much more.
