WRUR/WXXI Named Rochester's Best
City Newspaper's "Best of Rochester 2009" poll winners are out, and WRUR/WXXI was named Rochester's Best Radio Station!
Every year City Newspaper solicits its readers to share with the paper their Rochester favorites – everything from restaurants to businesses, art groups to movie theaters, radio stations to politicians. WRUR/WXXI was voted "Best Radio Station."
Also, new this year to the poll was "Critics' Picks" where City reporters chose their own Rochester favorites. For the "Best Reason to Be Late for Work," music editor Dale Evans chose Scott Regan, host of WRUR's Open Tunings heard weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Her reasoning? Evan's writes:
"Listening to the radio on my way to work, a song comes on that I've never heard before. It sounds so good; I've got to find out who it is. It's followed by another song, one I love, and I'm singing along in my car. Then another, by an artist I know, but I've never heard this cut. By now I'm sitting in my work parking lot and I can't leave until the set is over. I'm late for work again and I blame it all on Scott Regan."
WXXI has four radio stations which include:
AM 1370, an NPR member station, specializes in news and public affairs programming, including community-based talk shows.
FM Classical 91.5, broadcasts classical music all day, every day, plus specialty programs such as "A Prairie Home Companion," and "Fascinatin' Rhythm."
FM Classical 90.3, broadcasts classical music and NPR programming, every day in Houghton, NY.
WRUR-FM 88.5 – A broadcast partnership with WXXI and the University of Rochester to provide NPR news and eclectic music programming.
