Dawn plays four songs and talks about her career, her approach to writing, influences and life on the road, in this first interview.
From early days in Montreal, through great periods of growth in New York City, Dawn Thomson followed a path few women take, that as a jazz singer who accompanies herself on guitar. With many guitar options at this year's Rochester International Jazz Fest, Dawn may be the only woman fingering her own jazz arrangements and complicated chording.
We had the chance to speak with her at length in the studio Friday morning (6/10). The entire interview is posted here. Stay tuned for interviews all week of the Jazz Festival with Stephane Wrembel, Pee Wee Ellis and others. I'm looking forward to the the wide range of shows and sharing some thoughts in this space over the next week.
