What begins as an experiment involving the loops and repetitions created by today's computerized world evolves into a complex exploration of daily repetitive patterns.
Loopdiver: The Journey of a Dance, airing Sunday, July 31 at 11:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11), explores the creation of an original performance work by the award-winning international dance company Troika Ranch. The half-hour documentary follows the creative efforts of company members over a two year period as they struggle with the extreme physical and emotional demands of creating an experimental new work. Real-life inspiration comes when company members visit a rehabilitation hospital and witness the repetitive motions patients perform in an effort to regain mobility. Watch as the same motion-sensing technology used to create the dance work is used by the patients to control music and video as part of their own rehabilitation.
