President Bush

Buffalo Phil Director appointed to National Council on the Arts

The Buffalo News is reporting that President Bush has appointed JoAnn Falletta to the National Council on the Arts. Falletta has served as music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for the past 10 years.

Council members help wade through grant applications, decide how tax money is spent, and weigh in on national initiatives.  They also advise the National Endowment for the Arts on programs and policies.

Falletta is in good company:  musicians such as Leonard Bernstein and Isaac Stern have served on the same council.  Her term will expire in 2012.
